Privacy policy

ReefPilot is built local-first: your reef's data belongs to you and stays on your device. Effective August 10, 2026.

What we store, and where

Everything you log - water tests, livestock, events, reminders, ICP results - is stored in a local database on your device. We run no account system, no analytics, no ads, and no tracking of any kind. We do not collect, sell, or share your data. Uninstalling the app deletes its local data.

Controller and device connections

When you connect an aquarium controller (Neptune Apex, GHL ProfiLux, Red Sea, Focustronic), the app reads it directly: on your own Wi-Fi network, or through the vendor's own cloud using the login you enter. Credentials are kept on your device and sent only to that vendor's device or service - never to us. All reads are read-only; the app never changes your equipment.

Bluetooth

The app scans for nearby Bluetooth aquarium devices only while you have the device scanner open, to read water-related data they broadcast (like temperature). Android requires a Bluetooth permission for this; we request it with the flag that declares scanning is never used to derive your location. Bluetooth data stays on your device. If you choose to share an unsupported device's technical signature with us to help build support, that share happens through your own email app and you see exactly what is sent.

Tank camera

If you add a tank camera, the video streams from your camera to your device on your own network. We never receive, store, or relay the stream.

Data exports

CSV and JSON exports are created on your device. In the installed app, ReefPilot hands the file to the operating system share sheet so you choose where it goes. Camera URLs, stream names, usernames, and passwords are never included in exports.

Optional cloud backup

If you configure the optional cloud mirror with your own account, your readings sync to that account so you can restore them on a new phone. This is off by default and entirely under your control.

Feedback

The “send feedback” link opens your email app with a pre-filled draft. We receive only what you choose to send, and use it solely to improve the app.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version ships with the app update and is dated at the top. Questions? Use the feedback link on the home screen.
